Passing On

To survive death is one path that one may take,

but to be on the receiving side.

It’s a pain that’s one that cannot be faked.

The death toll is at a rise quietly.

We may not understand it, but

it’s something that takes silently.

It happens when we least expect it.

From a terrible sickness to car wrecks, and

it’s something one does not deserve to merit.

What comes after is what’s the hardest.

Some cope in many different ways,

from becoming an EMT to a distraught artist.

We never really know how much it can change us.

Loss makes us do crazy or unknown things that we wouldn’t do.

The loss affects our hearts or changes our pain into lust.

Today, we are becoming closer and adjust to each other.

Although it seems like the opposite at times,

what destroys us most, makes us drawn to comfort, drawn to one another.

What we do after is important not for us, but to them.

To pass on to the afterlife is one thing, but to pass on in life,

that’s something that changes our youth, it’s something we must condemn.
