Passing Calm

A wave of calm passes over me In this stillness, I have no expectations of myself or of the world. I am small and just a passing visitor on this planet Tomorrow may bring me back to a state of feeling discontent and rivalry with the world But at this time, I am in peace and nothing can disturb me. The Quakers talk of this silence this hum of space And give abstract names to it But it doesn't need one It is only worth enjoying

Ian Mccleary

Poetry is important to my life because it gives me a way of saying things I never imagined were in me. My poems deal with all kinds of subjects, my attitude on today's culture, art, corporations, nature, etc. But these aren't the only things that I write about in my poetry. I don't have a favorite poet, but probably Michael McClure is the poet I have learned the most from, from his readings on YouTube.
