Passing Vessels

The window shows a smile in my reflection,

Feeling sad at the notion that after tonight it may fade.

But then I keep on smiling in deflection,

Prolonging the inevitable dip in my mood.

I want this miles-wide smile and these laughs to last,

Before they become parts of the past.

And I am told of the vessel that I had missed,

The event that I had not known would exist.

I knew that something would have happened tonight,

But then I forgot and did not ask much more.

Yet I still have not lost my devotion,

And this night still ended up being all right.

As long as I remember this,

One of the most mirthful of moments,

I know that we can make it happen again.

As long as I proclaim faithful farewells,

I promise that we will meet up again.

Wonderous stories of memories that give hope.

Surprised that the words are known by someone else.

Though I stray by water singing solo there is a rope,

That ties me to the friends with whom I have traveled.

And I know that back to them I will drift,

And not be carried away by a rift.

For when I saw the dead seagull on the shore,

I turned back to have a s'more,

Wondering if the bird's life was worthwhile.

I bade it farewell as the tide carried it away.

It was a vessel of what used to be alive,

And now the cold cannot harm its inner essence.

As long as I remember this,
One of the most memorable moments,

I know that the flame will be ignited again.

As long as I proclaim faithful farewells,

I promise that we will meet up again.
