A Passion for Freedom

There are those who would say, To turn the other cheek, When there is prejudice, And when the times seem bleak. That is just what they did, For civil rights for all, They all stood, hand in hand, And would refuse to fall. When the hate-mongers came, The protesters stood their ground, Chanting, “We shall overcome.” Over the cop’s barking hounds. They may be thrown in jail Some may be assaulted Some may even be killed Some will be martyred. But the cause they stand for, Will never be put out, The passion for freedom, Will forever be sought.
