The Passionate or The Steadfast?
What is love?
A fiery, yearning passion consuming your bones,
Or gentle embers steadfastly burning but no one knows?
Is it forbidden desires shared in the night,
Or simple hand holding without any strife?
Which is brighter -
The star or the flame?
But which lasts longer?
And can either be tamed?
What is love?
A bold declaration announced in daylight,
Or silent smiles treasured inside?
Is it dramatic breathtaking embraces,
Or the briefest of soft fine-feather kisses?
Which is prettier -
The rock or the rose?
But which is stronger?
And do both decompose?
What is love?
An unfunctionality when you aren’t here,
Or a mask of support in the face of despair?
Is it utter emptiness where there’s a hole,
Or continuous growth despite the unknown?
Which is better -
The passionate or the steadfast?
But which will waver?
And without each other, can either last?
