The Past and The Future
Love is not tears
Manipulation or jeers
Nor is it lies and coercion.
Love does not hurt
Or leave you in the dirt
Face down and full of regret.
Love is not screaming
It does not leave you dreaming
Of a life that you used to remember.
Rather love is a smile
On top of a pile
Of freshly dried clothes from last night.
Love is just walking
Through snow and not talking
Because your heart needs no words to describe it.
To me, you are love
A gift from above
And the cherry on top of each day.
You brighten my life
I’ll one day be your wife
Until then, I will be here beside you.
