The Past Does Not Define Us
I can’t move.
Not when it’s so much like before.
Paralyzed as blood spills on the floor and adrenaline pounds through me unable to spur me into motion.
no
I can’t move.
Not when it’s my fault, not when they have all counted on me
Once more they have sacrificed for me, pretending they know the truth as if the sacrifice will leave no scars behind.
How many times will it take?
How many times must it happen like before
How many times before we act, before we push through the borders that governments use to assume control and separate us all?
no
We are the age of the limitless,
full of those of potential
if we would just be willing to reach out and stop the blood that is flowing so thickly over the world, over the scars that make us tremble and break
Now should not be the age of vengeance but of redemption.
Our countries are made in blood and we are left to redeem what remains.
This should be the age of holding out a hand and seizing it
no matter the color, no matter the race or belief,
we should hoist each other up to stand upon the shoulders of giants that now seem legend due to the great tasks they have accomplished to give us our life.
No longer can we afford to be paralyzed by the terrors of this world.
Time moves swiftly.
Soon we will be the ones faced with this picture of the country, of the world and what it should be.
We need the courage to hold out our hand and help out our brothers, pull them out of this world of blood and revenge.
We are one.
It cannot be like before.
We cannot hide behind a door to pretend all is right with the world.
People are dying every day and the blood grows thicker.
We must act, we must unite, we must push past arguments away
for the sake of tomorrow,
for the sake of our brothers.
For we are one and it cannot be like before.
