The Past Makes the Present

A past of innocence only goes so far

A curse yet a gift

Left with no way to deal

But when pain

And knowledge

And terror

Strikes the front

What is one left to do

Besides absorb what has come?

Now as times change the world

And the cold breeze pushes on

We learn to take our past

And press right past beyond

Because this past makes us weak

We can still fall right down

But we know in our hearts

Climbing back up is the only choice left

The past can both hurt and help all of us

But as strong humans,

We know what we are capable of
