Past, Present and Future
Dear Future, Past and Present Camron,
Your story isn’t perfect and it won’t ever be. You have witnessed countless events through the seventeen rotations around the sun that have composed a comet. It’s amazing that you are surviving in this world full of possibilities of you being another statistic but now it’s time for you to stop surviving and start living. Stop being afraid of what people say or do; find your true self through what you love to do. I know as you read this the ideology of, “I was just a child learning how the world works, not knowing what’s even outside my old bedroom window” but unfortunately we both know that we were not an ordinary child. I know what I am talking about, I’m literally you. We are still a child living in a big world where we are easily forgotten. You have opened this letter for a reason:
1. You might be feeling unsure about your future
2. Forgot who you
3. Forgot sacrifices your ancestors made for your footprint to be left on this earth
4. You just want to give up and start over somewhere else
To some extent I probably know you better than yourself. Why? Because we both know you are not honest to yourself out of fear of being different. I know you feel that you owe explanations to all the actions you complete or plan to complete but you don’t. Part of growing up is disappointing the people that are closes to you. Even if growing up means being in your late thirties, there is always room to grow. It doesn’t matter that you’re a short black girl listening to Broadway music or Korean groups and still love classic R&B. Your still black. Can’t erase skin color or experiences.
Your different, that’s what the world needs. One of your favorite Broadway actors, Ben Platt stated at the 2017 Tony’s, “The things that make you weird are the things that get you paid”. Don’t stop believing in us. You fought too hard to let yourself down because at the end of the day we are the ones who have to live with regret. Remember that Ms. Mainland pageant at school that you were scared to audition for because a girl who was literally the complete opposite was your competition. Where is she now? Trick question: you don’t care because it’s not your life. Believe in yourself. At this time you are deciding what college is the best fit for the undetermined major. Just remember to aim high no matter what people say. You got this. Now it’s time for you to become a shooting star.
Sincerely,
Your childhood
(Don’t forget who you are and your story) (People aren’t here forever, live for now)
