Past Relationships

I am the bow to a violin

swaying away

as its life goes fast

goes slow

and sometimes even stops

I am the tear running down your face

as you fight with your ex-husband

and I run out of the house with your children

I am the police at your house

pulling in the driveway

slamming at the door

dragging you away

in front of your children's eyes

I am the officer in front of your face

asking you multiple questions and

questioning your parenting qualities

I am the judge at court

telling you your future with your children

and your qualifications to see them

I am the smile on your daughters faces

as they know you did everything

and anything to see them again

I am the piece of paper

in your hand

saying that you are divorced

I am the person in bed

as depression sets in

and my world spins around

in front of my eyes

I am the coloring pencil on paper

allowing me to focus

on staying between the lines

instead of what is going on around me

I am the music in my head and in my ear

allowing me the presence of your existence

and expressing the emotion I are feeling

I am the wedding dress

you are wearing

at your second marriage

on the beach

I am the camera in my hand

taking pictures to save these precious memories

for many years to come

I am the smile your children have

and the knowledge you have

of knowing that you changed your life

for the better
