The Path to Adulthood

There are a few words that describe senior year

Two being stress and worry

We send in our college applications and patiently wait to see if our high school experience paid off

It also marks the beginning of adulthood

Getting into college is the first step

With the second being independence

Many will leave their homes and live in dorms

Quickly realizing that their mom will no longer be making them breakfast in the morning

Having to acclimate to a new environment

Don't forget having to pay for your education, hoping to not acquire student debt

I am a freshman in college nervously waiting to live on my own

I am no longer a kid but rather an 18 year old who is going to be in the real world soon

I thought this day would never come

Looking back as a kid, I never predicted this to be my future

I learned that people will not always be able to reach their dreams

But that doesn't mean they should stop chasing after them

Ever since I was young, I was stuck on the idea of going to Yale and becoming a marine biologist

Yet, I have found myself staying in the heart of Florida

You may not reach your goals and dreams right away

However, I will continue to succeed in life and watch my future unfold knowing it won't always be what I expect
