The Path of Pain

(poems go here) You may see a happy boy before your eyes But beneath the surface he is anything but Every day you see a smile on my face But it is not my own What you see is a reflection A reflection of the joy seen in you Sorrow, anger, indifference all hiding behind the mask of a clown Unable to feel Unable to care Unable to speak of my pain All the pain you just become numb But you don’t need to know Hiding your heart Protecting yourself from being hurt Knowing what has already been dealt A heavy burden Words piercing like a blade It is the unseen blade that is sharpest and cuts deepest The emotions flow away like a spring stream But the pain forever remains trapped like a bird in a cage Not knowing how to let it out Not knowing how to free yourself You are a prisoner within your own heart Though it burns deep you will never see it For not only are you seeing a reflection of your own joy but you are seeing what I wish I had
