Patience and Understanding

Because I love you

I will give you space

Not to far

But an arm's reach away

I know how hard it can be

To watch your world crumble to pieces

And feel as if no one and nothing will last

But I am, I will

Because I’m just an arm's reach away

I won’t pry

Because you’re not ready to talk

But I will ask you every day

“Are you okay?”

And one day you’ll answer me truthfully

You say it’s not my job, or that I shouldn’t care

But I’m just an arm’s reach away

I’ll be ready for that day

The time when you shout that you’re broken

How time seems to stand still in your heart

While the world whizzes past your eyes

I’ll be ready for the day

You're ready to let me in

Because your walls are slowly falling

And I’ve already fallen in love

It’s your smile that barely appears

Yet catches my breath every time

It’s my heart that beats in time

To the sound of wild horses

When you walk into the room

But you’re not ready

And I understand

So let’s sit here together

Today, on a park bench in New York City

Listening to the birds and enjoying the sensation of the sun

Because talking would do you harm

And my naive mind would be lost anyways

But I’ll listen when you’re ready

Because I love you

And I’m just an arm’s reach away
