Pedagogy of a Firefly
Fireflies only shine their glowing light
When reminiscing on a time when love took flight
Surpass the days of struggle and strife
Only to make magic at night
I am a firefly
my fire is what makes me,
fly
But I dream beyond the blue sky
that one day with swithness
I'll create my own business,
Her name is Amor.
I’ve turned the corner passed Poverty Street
I’ve drove down Self-determination Parkway
Swiftly switching lanes
And checking my rearview
Checking for those flashin’ lights
because even in 2014
we are still fighting for our civil rights.
Now I’m approaching Visionaries’ Road.
Everyone stops here for the sights
And, there’s no fee,
No, no one ever has to pay a price
Just open your eyes and take a look,
Everything Is Alright.
I see myself,
I am ever changing.
I am a graduate of mother earth
giving life to beauty and prosperity
Building a generation and legacy
I am planting Amor
My seed brings hope and nourishment
Gives voice to those silenced
Give sanctuary from homes engulfed in violence
Give therapy to those feeling American adversity
and laughter that makes your tummy hurt
Amor,
Provides spray paint.
By all means,
design the lines that defines you,
Reminds you
to be the purest of your essence.
Defy constraint
Sip earth, water, air, and fire.
Amor,
Inspires creativity that
Fabricates currency for starving pockets
While coating stomach’s with
Caribbean deliciousness
Like sugar canes,
plantains,
jerk chicken wangs,
sopa de mondongo,
maybe even camarofongo…
Amor,
is an artist's playground
The stage is the sandbox
Take your shoes off and
let your fit sink in to the sand
Be lyrical
Be spiritual
Be political
Be visual
and most of all
be God's miracle
As I approach the end of the road
I slow down at the stop sign
My eyes glimpse back but I continue my journey
Hand glides across the steering wheel
And I shift the turn indicator up
Right turn on Tilly Mill Road
Classes start at 11:30.
And, I am without worry
because I arrived to class early.
I am a firefly,
my fire is what makes me fly high.
Business is in my eye
and the horizon is like peach pie
on summer day in dubai.
