Pedestal
You put me up on a pedestal.
You liked to call me yours.
You made me feel so happy.
You held me closer than anyone ever has.
You took me out to eat.
You held my hand wherever we were.
You pressed your lips on mine and made me forget.
But then everything changed.
Your words no longer brought comfort, but pain.
Your touch no longer brought warmth, but distress.
Your texts gave me all the wrong feelings in my stomach, no longer butterflies.
Your lips parted only to tell me I deserved to cry.
Your arms wrapped around me like a cage.
Your words pulling me down lie chains.
Your embrace traps me.
