Peeling tape and Rubber bands
The age old question as to how to heal a
broken heart
depends on the person, and on the affliction;
healing for one might come in
the sound of a bottle popping and blinding
lights,
music as
Nameless
as the people around them
and cold hands trying to put out
burning sorrow
This type of healing will be an attempt to cover
everything rapidly, focused on forgetting
then anything else
For others healing will come in the shape of
endless pages, and spines slowly
wearing away
it will come at the bottom of tea mugs and
rain,
rain inside and out
both from darkened clouds
and red eyes
this type of healing will place your heart
eight degrees to fifteen from the equator
where the water surface is at
80 degrees farenheit
where tropical storms form,
intense and heavy
a whirling cycle of hot and cold emotions
only over when
nature
finally declares it so
but there is a softer heartbreak,
one that, appears in hairline cracks across the heart
rather then sudden shattering and souless crushing,
that comes apart like petals of a flower
rather then overpowering storms and one night stands
a heartbreak that hurts just as much
that kills you slowly from the inside out
that comes from loving too much
or perhaps, not enough
a heartbreak that comes from visiting
sterile white rooms
or slabs of stone
or memorial pages;
a heartbreak that comes in the shape of weeping angels
and unspoken phrases, all muttered at an altar
a heartbreak that emerges from an undoubtful love
that can not be ignored
no matter how much time passes by
a heartbreak that doesn't heal
but like old crayon drawings
and your favourite figurine from your childhood
you wrap your pain in rubber bands
sticking bits of clear tape onto it,
for this healing comes in acceptance
it comes in grieving, moving on
and yet
not letting go.
