Pelican(Louisiana’s State Bird)
With bayous and the Gulf's warm embrace,
It glides with poise, a creature of grace.
With wingspan wide, an amazing display,
It paints the sky at the break of day.
With feathers of cream and a splash of brown,
It graces the waters in splendid gown.
A master fisherman with a beak so grand,
It dives with precision, the gulf at its hand.
From marsh to coast, where wild rivers flow,
The pelican’s dance is a mesmerizing show.
It glides through heaven’s vast blue fold,
A symbol of freedom, a story retold.
Through swamps and cypress, it sweeps through the skies,
A vision aloft as the coastline sighs.
Louisiana’s pride forever shines bright,
The pelican, wild, a breathtaking sight.
Once fading wings, now sunlight prolongs,
Revived by hope and the people’s songs.
From mangrove to marsh, it sails on,
In Louisiana’s heart, forever drawn.
From courts to coasts, its proud legacy thrives,
The pelican soars where the hardwood drives.
In New Orleans, where bold spirits collide,
It rises in flight—with fierce game-time pride.
Yet threats still loom over this coastal delight,
From oil spills to plastics that dim their light.
But hope springs eternal as they rise from the tide,
For the spirit of Louisiana will always abide.
So here’s to the pelican, steadfast, splendid,
Its flight a promise, forever extended.
A treasure of nature, enduring, ascended,
In skies of the South, forever defended.
