This Pen is my Voice

This pen is my voice A voice of unsung heroes singing love songs to the world I am an unsung hero A hero who finds her harmony in the musings of mix matched stories Imagination spread wide over the screen of my mind Showcasing a world that no one seems to understand I always asked for pencils and tablets for Christmas and birthday occasions As a child I was obsessed with the power just one writing utensil held Elated that I could rewrite my history and make something into nothing This pen is my voice The gift bestowed upon me by the Heavens And what I write is the gift I bestow upon the world Locked inside of everyone are the words to a song Caged inside your lungs are the breaths to a beat We write because our words give our actions feet Moving them into tangible creations and witty inventions Things we can share with our grandchildren This pen is my key to remembering, this pen is my key to forgetting Intertwined between the chapters of my brain are thoughts of hope and regret This pen is my voice A melody with memory, lyrics yet to be written I write to tell my story Each and every beat of my heart holds part of my journey And this pen is there to capture it all My ancestors fought for me So I wouldn’t have to slave in the field but I could get lost in the pages of my journal Captivated by a blog post and fulfilled by a dream I write because it’s powerful When I found that goals written down were the secret to Oprah’s success I wrote mine down All 500 of those crazy dreams And so far 23 have come to pass College, six supportive best friends and countless opportunities later I keep writing my world into being All things that came to me because I spoke them into existence With my pen Scribed them into my very being And walked towards them like it was the only pathway As if my life depended on it Some say I wrote my own fairy tale This pen is my voice A voice of unsung heroes singing love songs to the world I am an unsung hero A hero who finds her harmony in the musings The pen is the gift bestowed upon me by the Heavens And what I write is the gift I bestow upon the world Locked inside of everyone are the words to a song Caged inside your lungs are the breaths to the beat We write because our words give our actions feet This pen is my voice
