Like a Pencil
Life is like a pencil,
Fresh from its unopened box.
Not yet knowing its purpose,
It looks to draw a new life.
It starts to draw its first lines,
Faltering at times but pushing on.
Its lines become stronger and bolder,
Creating a new future.
The pencil becomes better each day,
Learning how to draw new things.
Sharpened by new experiences,
It keeps trying until it creates a masterpiece.
At first, the pencil had many others surrounding it,
Helping it create a new life.
But now it has left its box,
Leaving its support behind.
It gets older and older,
Until it cannot write any longer.
And its final days come closer and closer,
Until its lead finally snaps.
But the pencil rests in peace,
With its drawings left behind,
Celebrated and admired.
