The Pendant

“I have but one question, what is this?”, his voice resonated through the trees.

I looked, and there before me was a pendant of delicate design…

The pendant was hanging from a silver chain, draped across a pale hand.

“Sempiternal.”, I whispered, my breath making cloud puffs in the winter air.

I looked up to find a man, with hair as red as autumn leaves, nodding at my reply.

His hair was long and waved in the wind like a war flag approaching battle…

And his eyes were a deep, warm brown that held secrets untold.

I stared in awe, as the word I uttered just seconds ago, resonated through my mind.

“Who are you?”, I stammered. He smiled and his eyes consumed me.

That was all I needed to know.

With his hand outstretched, I took it, the pendant pressed between our palms.

I knew not what lied before me, but I didn’t care… His unspoken promise assured me.

We walked through trees as tall as castles, the sun shining through the tops…

Casting beautiful yet obscure patterns across our skin.

He was a mystery I felt appointed to solve, a puzzle who’s pieces I was to place.

“But who am I?”, I thought. As if hearing my pondering, he turned…

He took my hand and placed it on his heart, his touch electrified my spirits.

That was all I needed to know.

We came across a garden of crimson dahlias and roses black as night.

And laid upon that flowery pillow, guessing at images in the clouds.

With not a care we dreamt and sang songs of other worlds…

But I need not know of Heaven, for his arms were my kingdom.

I kissed his eyelids as he slept, laying in that bed.

Just to see his smile as he journeyed through his dreams was enough to soothe my pain.

For in dreams we were together, and no one could take him away…

His lip’s sweet nectar sits on my tongue, a taste I profoundly crave.

But distance creeps and preys in the dark, befalling the surrounding trees

“Sempiternal.”, I sang and the darkness vanished in mid-air…

I looked down upon his face, his eyes glistened with that of new found hope.

I love you.

And that is all I need to know.
