The Pen's Requiem

I see your loyalty and compassion

I am your tool

Nay, I am an extension of you

You would no sooner part with me than a samurai his sword

You've walked through the valley of the shadow of depth

Pursuing knowledge on a road that seldom sees tourists

But you are different

You know pain

That intimacy with adversity has strengthened our bond

Being cast aside and left to live a life where your only companion is your shadow

In a room where even light is tainted by the patronizing cynicism of others

You rely on me to dissolve the shackles and evaporate the noose

With me you climb out of the sewers and arise in a world where everything makes sense

The fish are able to walk on land and the birds develop fins

Disease is a thing of the past and worries are extinct

And your only concern is to show the world the "reality" you envision

You are the musician with the instrument of imagination at your finger tips

And your once cracked lips from a tongue bitten far too many times

Has been freed to perform our next sonnet
