A Pen’s Personality

I am ocean blue but my exterior is grapefruit purple

I am picked up frequently only to be put down

Must I compete against my community, your iPad and phone

For you to choose me to write your story?

If only you continued spilling your words to me.

Asking me to disclose our discussions is like asking a sun to rise the next day.

Whether you write a word or a page,

you teach me about your species.

Apparently you’re humans.

Heavily flawed creatures,

but I shall make do.

Appreciate your insights into life beyond the page.

I wish I was more than an ugly duckling to you.

I wish I was a swan beautiful as the sunsets you tell me about.

I’d love to answer your questions confidently,

to correct your assumptions.

I have no say in letting you write incorrect or inaccurate sentences,

If only your memory was more reliable.

If you ask a question I know the answer to,

I cannot give it to you.

Of all your experience writing with me, I prefer paper soft as car fur.

If only you’d think to ask.
