The People

That girl The one who sits behind you In Algebra- maybe World History, possibly English Literature That girl The quiet one who keeps to herself The one who you don't think twice about She is awesome That girl She represents everything we strive to be Everything we despise about ourselves She has no face Yet we can all relate to her She is you She is me She is the people We are all the people- Black, White, Asian, Hispanic Christian, Muslim, Jewish- It doesn't matter. Every morning we wake up and fight our own battles. For ourselves For our families. We fight for civil liberties and equality. We battle eating disorders and abuse and disease. We work to achieve greatness and success and even- Even when we are knocked down- We stand back up. We stand up to bullies To doubt To depression and discrimination. We stand up And we keep pushing, We keep fighting To survive another day. We are the people We are the girl We are so different Yet we are all the same We are the people And we are awesome.
