People Are Books Too

I look at people like a book,

They have an outside

That the world judges them by,

But then there's the truth within.

Some covers look pristine,

But within is a withered world

Of despair and tragedy.

Sometimes I come across books

That I like.

I learn their story

And cherish it.

I let them read me

Like I do them.

After that

It all clicks

We then know each other's pages,

The doggie-eared pages,

The water stained pages from our tears

The ones that shine like stars,

The good and the bad.

But we never stray,

Because that's what we do.

We learn to treat them well,

We learn how to understand it all,

And overcome it.

Books and people are similar,

Treat them well

And respect them,

And they will bring you

Years of happiness.

Especially the books on your top shelf,

That you go back to constantly.
