The People-Fixer
I want to be a repairman,
but not a repair man for furniture or pictures
or windows or bathrooms.
I want to be a repairman
for people.
For marriages,
for minds,
for confidence,
for friendships.
I want to take the broken people,
the people with scuffed chairs,
crooked paintings,
broken windows,
and leaky bathtubs,
and make them beautiful.
I want to be a repairman
but I still need the tools.
I still need the schooling,
the money,
the guidance,
the counseling.
With each day that passes,
I think I break a little bit more
out of fear that I will never be a repairman.
My own cracks are growing
out of worry and stress about funding.
I want to be a people-fixer,
but I'm not even halfway there yet.
