People Like Me

People like me aren’t real

we spend all our lives trying to feel,

like these identities we’ve created for ourselves

it begins with good intentions

little things you want to change

next thing you know you’ve spiraled down

it’s like your being has made a complete exchange

Who are you anymore?

Who really knows?

The ones who knew you before,

or those that know the identity you chose?

We may try to return,

to who we once were,

but I find it gets harder every day,

to separate me from her
