Perfect

I wish I was perfect I hear a young girl say Not tomorrow or next year, but today I think what does it mean to be a perfect girl Sure, there are a lot of definitions given by our world She needs to have perfect breast size She needs to walk with her held high She needs to say please, you’re welcome and thank you She needs to know what to say, where to stand, and what to do She must smile but not to wide For she doesn't want to show what she has to hide But at what price does this perfect girl come And from where is this definition of perfect from For if what this world deems perfect girls believe She will never find in a mirror what she wants to see Perfect is not about beauty that is only skin deep It's about what you have to show underneath Perfect isn't a cup size, a height, or a weight It about taking a little more than you ever thought you could take Perfect is about a strength that comes from within It's about being a mother, a daughter, a friend To this young girl I say Don't get caught in how the world thinks you should look or behave Scream on the top of building from the top of your lungs And laugh when everyone is looking just because it is fun For overtime your appearance may change But inner beauty is much harder to gain So maybe the young girl will never be the perfect she wishes to be But what I see is already perfect in front of me
