Perfect
Be Yourself.
That’s what they always say.
“Just Be Yourself!”
And yet every single day,
What am I pressured to be?
Someone or something else, of course!
My body should look like that of a girl
Who no doubt,
Eats approximately 4 carrots a day.
My grades should surpass all expectation,
even though that’s what’s expected.
My bedroom should always remain clean,
but seeing as I live in it,
it’s not going to be bare of all clutter.
I am expected to get AT LEAST eight hours
Of sleep each night.
And yet,
my teachers give about that many hours of homework.
I am supposed to be involved
In millions of extra-curricular activities.
Yet, I should not stretch myself too thin.
I should be as put together as I appear,
even when my insides are falling apart.
I should have so much self-confidence,
Even though I constantly criticize myself.
I should act like everything is fine,
Even when I was just hurt deeply.
I should be absolutely perfect.
And yet,
I’m told that nobody is perfect
and I need to be myself.
Makes sense,
Right?
No.
