Perfect Imperfection
He was like a dream, and everyone knew it.
Then one day I woke up, and everything I knew wasn’t true,
But he still made them believe, that he was a mold of perfection.
He kissed me with flaming lips,
Leaving hotspots on my body, burning,
With marks of hand prints.
He said I was beautiful,
Touching every bruise and scar that covered me,
Like the Maybelline I used to hide his imperfections.
He was never angry, whenever that poison was in his system,
Only hostile.
I wasn’t sad when those tears of red slid down,
Only motionless with emotion.
Love taps got out of hand,
And never did I think about escaping without flinching,
My foot through the door and my hair soon in his hands.
That day, where he gave his all in that one blow,
Never did he think that it would be the last time he caused me harm.
So the next day, while crying over the body he left for dead,
He left town.
In a ghost like stride, he dragged his feet,
Leaving his good looks and cocky attitude behind,
Twinkle no longer in his eyes.
So remember that dazzling white smile,
For it tricked me and all of you,
And made mine disappear forever.
