Perfect Imperfections
What you wear,
How you did your hair,
"What? No make-up?"
"Did you just go through a break up?"
"Or perhaps you're not feeling well?"
"Are you ill? Are you under some spell?"
Selfies and group pictures are all so taboo,
Unless they are modified so that you are no longer you.
I can't believe what I hear
How we make all the little girls fear,
And hide in shame
Because they believe they are to blame
Due to their waist not being small
Due to being "too tall"
You're eyes aren't right,
And your body isn't tight
Your curves and your butt don't produce enough lust,
So similar to your small bust.
Your lips aren't plump
And your nose has bumps.
Plus your nails are short and chipping.
Your eyebrows are bushy and need clipping.
Your eyelashes need length
And your muscles need strength
But wait! Not too much, don't look like a boy,
You need to be a Barbie doll toy.
Become a man's dream,
Look like the girls on the movie screen.
But is this beauty?
Can you answer my truly?
It makes me sick,
This idea is like a tick
Implants itself in a little girl's mind,
And tells them this world is unkind.
Says that she's not good enough
Tells her she can't be that tough.
But what if we could flip the switch?
Here's the idea we should pitch:
Beauty has no limit of age,
Beauty is not bound by a cage.
Beauty comes from within,
To think otherwise would be a sin.
A wonderful sunrise
Is no match to your eyes
As they sparkle with hopes and dreams.
Her smile lights up a room, it seems.
Her laugh makes her glow;
No, she isn't putting on a show.
Your flaws are what make you you,
Always stay true,
Believe in the beautiful princess inside
And never let others decide
How you should be viewed or treated.
Your perfect imperfections have insults defeated.
