The Perfect Man
There has always been one man in my life that told me you can do it.
His laugh and smile was infectious -
he was a lawyer who knew the rules, and when to break them.
He made jokes at the wrong time, but the punchline always hit home.
Was able to slam a basketball on a lowered hoop.
Had terrible vision,
But always wanted to put you up on his shoulders to see the action.
He told me to study my lines when I had a play.
He told me to workout and get big so I can run the football on the field.
Never missed a play, game, or birthday.
Always asked to rehearse with me even when he was tired.
He would do anything to make me laugh.
Never thought any less of someone who didn't deserve it.
He taught me how to be a gentleman,
Be someone people admired.
I admired him.
This man was diagnosed with cancer.
This man lost his hair. Lost his mobility. Had to retire from being a lawyer due to his health.
He never lost his love for his grandchildren.
I never lost the advice from him.
Even after he passed he still impacts my life.
My grandpa, Charlie William Charles Dodson, encourages me to live my life with joy, and love everyday.
