A Perfect Moment

When you are finally done And you throw those decorated caps High into the air Smiling, cheering Maybe even tearing up Hug your best friends Hug your friends Hug your acquaintances Hug people you never talked to Because everyone feels this way Pure joy And cause for celebration Later there will be nostalgia And maybe even sadness But right now The speeches just finished Seniors are now freshman And those tassels leap To the right side As we prepare to leap Into the next stage Parties ensue So much chocolate cake With chocolate frosting Declaring "Congratulations!" Relatives bearing gifts Cameras everywhere Celebrity status In this moment In this perfect moment Of pure joy All those years of toil Paid for that piece of shiny paper Declaring that you made it And you graduated
