The Perfect Present

From the everyday to the holiday

We are all indeed in search of

The latest and greatest

Aye, many have spent

And went

And bent

Over finding the perfect present.

But alas, if my perfect present

Did not shed it's beautiful light

On a boy searching in the night

For something he lost

Something stolen

Indeed his heart wandered

Out of his yard, pondering

Where is the match?

My heart lept for joy

When he first saw you.

Something worthy of praise

And my heart pulse did you raise.

It raised not for your beautiful eyes

It raised not for your smile

It raised not for your body

Although those all

Do a man, me, enthrall

But no.

It was simply my heart

Trying to reach yours.

Simply my heart

Trying to fight through

My bone to be

Enjoined with yours.

Soon though, my heart realized.

That my heart did not reach its match.

Something better it did find.

It learned it was not a match but greater.

So then, it became,

My heart's greatest gift.

But my heart's greatest thief.
