The Perfect View

High above the clouds we overlooked the island, On the sacred and mighty peak of Mauna Kea. Blue clouds for miles and the tip of a mountain in the distance; The perfect view. Never in my life have I felt so small. On the top of the peak we watched the sunset, Mesmerized as a blending array of colors filled the horizon. In a few moments it would vanish under the clouds as quickly as it came; The perfect view. Never in my life have I seen such beauty. As the colors faded to darkness we huddled under blankets, Watching millions of twinkling stars appear in a blackening sky. In the tiny lens of the telescope galaxies, nebulas, and planets came alive; The perfect view. Never in my life have I been so amazed. I now understand why the natives call this a sacred peak, And what millions of people travel across the world to see. Such color and beauty, so much darkness yet so much light; The perfect view. Never in my life shall I forget that night.
