In a Perfect World
Dear Brian,
In a perfect world we’re perfect for each other,
But this world is damaged.
So many obstacles stood in our way.
Left us no choice but to walk away,
But there was another choice.
We just didn’t feel like putting in the effort.
Because giving up is easier than trying to make it better.
And we’re wondering why we’re still single,
Why no one else makes us feel the same way the other made us feel.
We look at the couples in the streets and we envy the love they feel.
But we made our choice.
And we’re too proud to take it back,
Too proud to call the other back,
Too proud to admit that we’re each others weakness.
So we stay silent,
And suffer in silence.
Deafening is the silence that lingers in our chests.
No more heart left to beat because we gave our hearts to each other and broke them both.
But it was still our choice.
One that we surely regret,
But one that was still made.
In a perfect world we’re perfect for each other.
But this world ain’t perfect,
And neither are we.
Yours truly,
Sabine
