Perfection

It was great at first,

Love I never thought I’d find.

We were meant to be

And that’s what you made me believe.

I mean, it was perfect.

Everything was perfect for so long,

Nothing could have gone wrong.

We laughed, and loved, and I gave you my all.

You took it from me, and I never healed.

I thought we were perfect.

I never saw the signs, never took any advice,

Always made up excuses, made you look like the good guy.

To me you were the good guy,

Always there to help, to lend me a shoulder to cry on.

You were perfect.

But when things got rough for you, I wasn’t enough,

I never understood, never cared enough.

That is what truly stung,

You never knew how much I cared about you.

That was not perfect.

Make ups are never easy, but they feel wonderful.

Our make ups were always heartfelt, sappy, and full of emotion.

I felt all that emotion towards you,

But it was not enough.

It was perfect again.

You knew who I was,

How social I am.

I made plans that you made me cancel.

I had obligations you made me miss.

Is that perfect?

I thought you were right,

What kind of man leaves when his girlfriend needs him?

I was the issue, being away from you.

I was not the perfect one.

I knew I was not perfect,

But you made me want to be.

You made me want to be better than who I was.

Than who I am.

I am not perfect.

In the end I lied.

I lied to get out,

Panicked and fled.

I hurt you, but you’re over me.

I am not over you,

Even after it all.

You haunt my brain like a buzzing noise.

A ringing you can never forget.

It was not perfect.
