Perfection

We were perfect

Don't you remember saying that?

Saying that I was your match and you were mine.

Yet, you're calling us an end

An end, how can you say that

After everything we've been through.

What happened to perfect?

You say you're not in love?

Even though weeks ago you knelt on your knee and pulled out a ring.

And now it isn't love.

Tell me

What is love?

Because I don't know anymore

It's just a figment of my imagination now.

Love is when you're supposed to care for someone right?

When did you care for me?

All I can remember is your fist,

Need I not say more.

Maybe it wasn't love

And you're right.

How can I be in love with someone who doesn't know what it is.

How can you love when you can't even feel

Oh wait, you say it isn't love.

Let's go back to where I'm not perfect

Where this isn't perfect.

What is perfect?

Perfect is standard that no one can ever reach

As a human I'll never be perfect

Now I realize I don't need you

There was no perfect

We were never perfect

Hello! My name is Vanessa, I am an 18 year old high school senior from Austin, TX. I am about to graduate from Manor New Technology High School and then go to college as a bio major at Texas A&M at College station. I have been writing poetry since middle school as a way to let out emotion and express myself. My sophomore year of high school is when I really discovered myself as a writer when I got put into a Creative Writing class with an amazing teacher and mentor, Richard Santos. This class was the greatest thing to ever happen to me, I grew as a writer and opened up more as a person. Before that class I was just a shy high schooler with little friends, I was pushed to open up and be more creative by not only the classmates (all upperclassmen) but the teacher as well. My writing really grew a lot. What I have submitted is a small collection of poetry that I am really proud of and hope you enjoy!
