Perfection Amungst The Flaw(less)s.

God,

I did not wake up like this.

I woke up innocent,

Naive.

Ignorant to the world and all of its horrors.

Stumbling like a newborn baby,

With everyone to catch me when I fell.

God.

I did not wake up like this.

As life moved,

I became changed.

The innocence I once wore like a mask,

Flew off at a tug.

And I was different.

Free and in love on the exterior.

Darkened and hungry on the interior.

What had I gotten myself into?

I was eating myself alive,

Because I wouldn't eat the plate.

Passing the blade,

As I passed the torch to my enemies.

Praying that they'd extinguish my flames

Instead of adding more.

I carried that cross on my back,

Thinking that if Jesus really loved me,

He wouldn't let me suffer so.

God,

I did not wake up like this.

Unlike the butterfly,

I went through metamorphosis twice.

I breathed out the fire I had given myself;

I found my roar.

My name is Brianna.

But they don't call me Brioncye

For no reason.

I am fierce.

I am strong.

I have overcome my shortcomings.

Taken a baseball bat to the face of my own oppression.

Because Jesus don't put us through anything

We can't swing at.

God,

I did not wake up like this.

But God,

I went to sleep like this.
