Permanent Damage

If, for just a moment,
I would seek to find comfort
Within the hidden caverns of my mind,
I would choose to seek then
The company of the achingly familiar
And deceptively reassuring
Thoughts of my treacherous subconscious.
Charged with high treason
Against its own self?
Long time passed,
And seemingly resolved.
But yet, it still lingers there...
The self-inflicted
Psychological wounds.
A battle of cunningly crafted arguments
Of the subconscious
Against the the weak defense
Of the very awake mind.
A battle long fought,
And long buried,
Ending with neither side on friendly terms.
And now the mind seeks solace
Within that familiar battleground,
Tainted with those self-inflicted
Permanent, psychological wounds.
