Perseverance

386 days ago my mother revealed that she had cancer

I couldnt believe I'd possibly lose my mother, not this year!

I'd stay up until morning begging for an answer

The universe had nothing for me, I was strangled by fear

My progress academically, physically, mentally was haulted

2017 was looking like the end for me, depression surronded my heart

Self doubt, anger, and confusion constantly on my mental

My mother wasnt just a mom, but a dad too

She raised us alone, never made a single excuse

Advice and love from friends and family

Gave me the energy to continue pushing

As my mother got weaker, I got stronger

I wouldnt allow both of us to fall apart

Perseverance is what she taught my sister and I

Radiation and chemo were taking its toll, the daily battles were tough

The winter was filled with uncertainty

She had to win this war, no matter the cost

I promised I'd stay in school I promised I'd finish what I started

I wouldnt let the shadow catch me, I could outrun it

Through hard work and deligence I remained strong

As the snow melted, the sun shined bright on us all

The summer was going to be beautiful, I could feel it

My grades came in, deans list

Her test came in, remission

Rejoice amongth loved ones, we won the war

Cancer is a nasty thing

It effects everyone not just the patient

2017 was a test for us all..
