The person I am

The struggles I face on a daily basis make me who I am
Learning to overcome obstacles, because I know I can
In a society where inequality and discrimination is the norm
My emotions and beliefs are constantly in a storm
Life cannot always be this hard, surely someone has common sense Trump has Americans feeling more bold than ever, these confrontations are intense
I know not everyone is racist, and discrimination isn't everywhere
But where it does live annoys me, especially when I’m not treated fair So how does my life have any less value than the next?
We all bleed the same blood, I work just as hard, and of course I do my best
I strive to make a name for myself and promise to keep my future bright If I can tame my anger and disgust for the world, I know i'll be alright These talks are not always easy, I know we have a long way to go
But educating people on what is and is not acceptable is what needs to happen, this I know
Despite the difficulties I will continue living my life, I won't let it keep me down
My head may drop sometimes, but I’ll never tip my crown
