To the person I once knew...
Dear Friend,
No, that's not it
Dear love,
Dear dreamer,
Dear ex,
Dear stranger,
I didn't think I had many words for you
In fact, I didn't have any
Not until now
You lured me in
A fisher, hard at work and good at his job
Then you left me out at sea, still reeling
Your beautiful words haunt me,
Riveting strings that brought me to the moon now weigh me down,
Dragging me six feet under
My heart beating as though it's punishing me
Screaming at me
How could you do this?
But I know you're only human
I know you're still learning,
Still living
I know you didn't want to hurt me anymore than I wanted to hurt you
All you wanted was something more,
Your next beauty
Your next love
It isn't your fault
And yet
It is
All I feel is a rock, tied around my feet and around my faith,
Dragging me in to the darkness
Wanting me to never, never, do this again
Whispering that you meant it
That you wanted this to happen
I shouldn't have been so naive
So stupid
So grossly uninformed
It was a game and everyone knew the rules except me
Now we talk,
You laugh,
As though it was nothing for you
You show me pictures of crushes, of boyfriends, of girlfriends
You smile, happy, and I smile too
But I'll never forget when those words were for me
When you had landed in my sky and all the stars were bright
Never
