A Person's a Person

Dear those that took a shot,

Another day has passed and another life has gone

and, I am sat wondering what it was that ran through your head

and what thoughts were being said,

as you held a trigger in front of you and those innocent men.

Does your pulse start to run as you discriminate another one?

Are you looking at the color of their skin, or was it who they were with?

Do you realize that that person, is just in fact another person?

Or are you blinded by something bigger than you wish to not admit?

Here’s a thought that should be racing through your head

keeping you from bed

haunting that one shot, as all it took was that one shot

to change the life of the lost.

‘That’ person has a name,

and they had family, friends and a life, they thought was worth living for.

They once had a dream, now it’s vanished and lost

that person was a person, but you just saw a shot.

You erased them from the story of life.

Other characters will never get to see their side,

and what’s worse is that they’ll never be able to explain

whether you were wrong, or right?

But you didn’t just take one life, you destroyed others too.

Their life is erased, their family and friends are forever in pain

shattered like the glass sprinkled on the ground,

you and their loved one stood upon.

Your life get’s diminished as people see what you did as wrong,

the sick minded agree with you,

 they stand high and strong.

But the guilt forever circles your mind,

like their face as it dawned that it was too late.

As their eyes lost the shine that says “I’m alive, I’m alive”

dull and frozen just like the time you realized,

what you had done that one crazy night.

Others aren’t living because fear consumes them.

Parents are worried that their worst nightmare lurks nearer.

To watch their kid die before they get to say goodbye

is the worst you could do, to those, human like you.

Many others contemplate life

including me and others that have once wished to die,

but we know that to take another’s life is more than a crime

Like a ripple, you affect others

and we have to deal with it

you decided to make a mess

others are left to clean left bits.

When you looked at their face

was there not a trace

or a thought that ran saying

“hey… this could be wrong?”

you may have a reason, and i’ll let you explain

because you are just a person and we are all the same.
