The Phoenix Knight

In the midst of battle, the charging knight Is blown off of his mount while in the fight Winded and hurt, for a moment he lies And takes in the air in deep breaths and sighs He reflects on that point, on where he erred And though here he could have easily despaired He does not. He instead stands and defies The challenge at hand and never once cries Mounts his steed and charges into the plight. Such is the strong will of the Phoenix Knight.

This short poem was inspired by a few different factors. I enlisted into the Air Force some time ago, and though I gave it my best and stayed on my feet, it didn't quite work out and I was sent back home after eight and a half weeks in their basic training. This poem embodies that failure, and what one should do whenever they're knocked down like I was which is to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, put the pieces together and keep walking down one road or another. The name is drawn merely from an online nickname I've used in the past and is an embodiment of that will to keep going on, kind of like a phoenix rising from its own ashes. Plus the training squadron I spent two of those weeks in was called the Knights.
