Phone Call

The phone rings

It's late at night

Someone answers,

My chest is tight.

I hear them walk

Back to bed

And dreadful thoughts

Fill my head.

I tell myself

That it was nothing

A misdial or something.

But I can feel

Way down deep

My anxiety

Starts to creep.

Paranoid,

With no sleep yet

I step outside

My room to check.

I step into the hall

To ask who had phoned,

And then I recall

I'm home all alone.
