Photograph Disguise

I see the same you that was once before my eyes

But there is something about a photograph that acts as a disguise

Skin and clothing once physical are merely ink on a page

Thinking you would never go but now knowing you will never stay

I will never speak another word directly to your face

I try to hear your voice but I cannot find a trace

What if there comes a day when I forget the way I felt?

Knowing the next time I saw you, my heart would thaw and melt?

Everything that froze it would always come undone

Every time I lost, you would make me feel like somehow I had won

All it would take was a smile to make it all okay

You were the best part of every single day

Be it a thought, be it a dream

You taught me who I wanted to be

I pray you never lose that light in your eyes

Either in person or through that paper disguise

That is the beacon and my north star

Teaching me that love is never too far
