Picketed lawn

She looked at him sad holding a plastered smile And him with tears They sat like this for a while He knew he had broken something That had been broken once before And now he could see all the little pieces Scattered on the floor What this boy did not understand was that in life you have to make tough choices And that you can have one but not all This might have been the marking point of this ignorant boys fall Because that’s part of dating you find and then you choose Sometimes you’ll win and Sometimes you’ll lose But he was a boy Always had to have his 2 cents Searching and looking Over every picket fence He will always wander Like the waves or the tide Trying to see if the grass is greener on the other side But the grass is greenest Where you put in and you get When you dedicate time To love and water it So again there they sat Like two strangers with nothing to say She wanted more answers but was ready to go her way She knew what she wanted It was always him she was certain But he came with so much baggage And something lurking behind every curtain He didn’t know what he wanted If it was another or her This hurt her so bad Because she was indefinitely sure So she left the car Knowing she has lost a friend and something more Although she wasn’t ready She had to close the door But we accept the love We think that we deserve And it was time for this girl To gather up her nerve And tell this boy that she was worth so much more Than girl 2,3,7,8,9, or 4 But this was something he already knew She could tell in his eyes He knew his last chance he surely had blew Because when you break something enough times No tape is going to fix No magical glue Or any special tricks He just needs to leave her be, so she can move on And worry about maintaining his own Picketed lawn
