The Picture

The Moment I peer beyond my idea of comfort

I gave up any true feelings

All that matters is what appears to be

And not what is real

 I am real

But the girl behind the lens is not

She is the attempted Pefection

She is the image that was not taken on the first try

But almost the last

Anything behind the lens gives false hope

"Maybe I am this pretty"

"Maybe love like theirs can happen to me"

"Maybe one day I can take a beautiful picture like them"

I am not the empty pixels that smile all the time

I am someone who appears to fit in

What I feel cannot be important enough for others to tell

Who I am is not real enough to show

If only we were the people

The people that appear behind the lens
