Pieces Of The Truth
The stars and moon shine above,
A soft breeze blowing across the memories of home,
Of adventures through the trees with animals all around
Memories of what was, of pieces already found
The calm disappears with an explosion of orange
A sunrise, welcoming a new day, a new world
And a new piece added to the puzzle of life
It is cold,
The morning chill spreads through the room,
As if it is an angry mob
And I, I am the focus of its anger
The voice is loud,
It screams inside me but no one hears
It cuts through me but no one sees
I step outside and face the sun,
Its penetrating rays reaching my core
Thoughts whirl and race across my mind,
A wild mustang trapped inside,
Thoughts about the twists and turns I have endured
About the heartaches and stomachaches,
The cuts and scraps,
The talks and cries,
The pain and despair,
About all that I will endure
The voice controls me
It vibrates through me, shaking everything
But it's never enough
It cries to be free
Free from this prison
From my body, my mind, my life
The voice says I’m not good enough
I'll never make it
I should just give up!
But I can’t
I keep fighting, screaming
Society tells us we are fine
My family says everyone feels like this
Society smothers our mouths,
Tells us that we aren't hurting enough,
That someone else is worse off and they are more important,
We don’t deserve help
We don't struggle enough
“When will enough be enough?” I scream,
A shout that creates stormy clouds
Will enough ever be enough?
The storm builds and boils filling the sky in my mind
Will someone see me for who I am, pain and all,
Instead of who they want me to be?
I take a step toward the sun and feel them
I feel the shadows surround me,
So full of hurt and loneliness
Of blood and tears
Of self-consciousness and doubt for a bright future
Shadows so full of words and rhymes
About stick and stones,
As if anything could hurt more than words
Spoken or not,
They weigh us down as their thorns tear our flesh.
Life is unfair or we are unfair?
