Pigments
We all have it?
It separates us, but also brings us together
Some have it more than others
Some look like they have none at all,
It becomes our definition,
Our identification,
But those with less, are different from the rest,
Those with more remain poor,
Those whose skin colour matches the colour of the soil,
Are judged by those whose skin colour are as white as snow,
Although, there are some whose skin colour shines like the golden sun,
But, skin does not determine the person that lies within,
We all have pigments,
My question is,
If we all have pigment
Why does history depict us as slaves?
Why are we animals in their eyes?
What stopped them from viewing us as people?
Why is their judgement of us based on our skin colour?
Do we not bleed?
If you looked inside me, would you not see the insides of a human being?
Are we not the same?
No we aren't,
We're different, but your judgment can only be viewed once you get to know the person,
Look not on our skin colour but on what lies beyond it,
We're not everything you stereotypically think we are,
We're so much more
As people,
We're different,
We're not all ragged, wild and violent,
We don't all share the same smile,
We don't all share the same past,
We all have different beliefs and stories that we want to share
The diversity in our culture, heritage and languages cannot be compared,
If you say you love how different we are,
Why do you treat us as if we're the same?
When GOD created us,
We were originally a blank canvas
Then he painted us differently with different colours but from the same pallet,
Our bodies, minds and souls come in different shades,
Shades that have many different names,
But the different shades
Don't make the person you convade.
